PRODUCT CONCEPT

 

The TMR880i product consists of a wideband transceiver for 380 – 430 MHz frequency range and a separate highly ergonomic CUR-3 control unit, optimized for easy and reliable use in vehicles. Thanks to a variety of installation options, versatile interfaces and I/O lines, the TMR880i is perfectly suited to diverse applications and usage environments, also when used as a data radio or when integrated into the control systems of compatible vehicles.

 

NEW CONTROL UNIT

The new control unit CUR-3 of the TMR880i has a professional, balanced design for maximized user comfort and ergonomics. Its large high-resolution colour display with 65,536 colours offers perfect visibility in varying light conditions. The keypad has a clear, user-friendly layout for reliable and intuitive operation. The popular series 40 type menu and voice feedback feature are available in 20 languages with a selection of 2-3 languages in each terminal. The sharp color display with adjustable brightness offers excellent visibility.

 

MULTIFUNCTIONAL KEYS

The multifunctional Group Selector with a Back key is for selecting a talk group and home group and for toggling between groups. Duty key is dedicated to making calls or callback request to dispatcher. Fast menu key provides straight access to many preprogrammed functions such as switching to direct mode, activating talk group scanning or sending a status message. Voice feedback of the EADS TMR880i radio guides the user in talk group selection and the activation of the Fast Menu functions. Voice feedback, as well as radio’s display texts, are available in 20 languages. The Red function key can be used for making a priority call to a preprogrammed number e.g. emergency number.

 

GROUP COMMUNICATION

The EADS TMR880i radio offers advanced group communication and group management functions. Up to 2000 TMO talk groups and up to 180 DMO groups can be programmed into the radio. Talk groups can be organized into relevant sets within 200 talk group folders. 5 of these folders can be programmed as My folders, enabling the users to create their own collections of talk groups e.g. for temporary occasions. The EADS TMR880i radio features two user levels, which allow the same radio terminal to be used by several users with different group management rights.

 

GPS POSITIONING

An integrated GPS receiver enables the TMR880i radio to collect positional information from GPS satellites. Using a separate positioning application, a position of a specified radio can be requested over the air by authorized users, e.g. command and control. Alternatively, the radio can be configured to send its position at specified intervals. Radio users can view their coordinates, altitude, speed, and direction on the radio display. It is possible to store the location information to the radio memory as waypoints and also send these to other users as text message. With the Waypoint guidance application the users can view the direction and distance to a selected waypoint when the radio is in GPS coverage area.

 

EMERGENCY POSITIONING

In case of emergency, the coordinates can be sent to a predefined address by pressing the red key on the CUR-3 control unit, provided that this feature has been programmed into the radio and that the radio receives GPS information during the Red Key call. Using separate compatible positioning and navigation applications, radio users are also able to view their positions on a digital map. This is possible either on the radio display via a WAP connection, or on a screen of a compatible PC of PDA device.

 

DATA APPLICATIONS

With the EADS TMR880i radio, authorized users are able to access and view digital content from their organization’s databases and even from the web, using the XHTML color browser of the radio. Graphical information such as detailed maps or pictures of missing persons or stolen vehicles can be fetched to the radio display over a WAP / IP packet data connection. Images can be stored into the radio’s Gallery for later use.

 

CONNECTIVITY

TMR880i mobile radio provides provides connectivity to the applications and peripherals needed by professional users. The radio features 16 programmable input and output pins for connecting to application devices such as status panels, external emergency button, relays and external alarm equipment. The radio also suits compatible telemetry and remote control applications that require efficient and reliable connections for data transmission. The radio’s advanced AT command interface makes it an ideal solution for applications such as mobile command and control, database access, navigation, as well as telemetry and remote control applications.

 

JAVA PLATFORM

The TMR880i has Java platform that enables professional organisations to implement applications to the radio during its whole lifetime. The Java J2ME, a platform specially targeted at mobile devices, allows designing user interfaces targeted at organisations’ special needs. Java applications can be downloaded to the terminal over the air rom an application server, or alternatively using the Content manager PC tool.

 

E2E ENCRYPTION

With support for smart card based end-to-end encryption, the TMR880i is compatible with the EADS Е2ЕЕ solution, capable for secure and confidential radio communication. The TMR880i radio unit contains an integrated smart card slot for the smart card. For added flexibility, an external smart card reader is available as an alternative.
